This melon is named Crane melon after the Crane Ranch in Santa Rosa where they were abundantly grown. It is also known as Eel River melon thanks to the extensive breeding stewardship done with this melon by Bill Reynolds in Shively. The flesh is a delightful sweet creamy orange with very little musk flavor like a traditional cantaloupe.
